The Osteopathic Manipative Therapy (OMT) Fellowship
The OMT Fellowship is a training program for medical students who are truly interested in utilizing OMT in their future practices. It is also an opportunity for the osteopathic community to create future instructors. The RVUCOM fellowship is not unique in this regard. What makes us unique is the fact that our fellows learn from all board certified OMT physicians and a board certified pediatrician. Our fellows have the unique experience of having one on one training in different fields of OMT, including cranial, biodynamics, visceral, HVLA, MFR, Still and the other techniques. Each fellow is carefully selected through an application process, which is currently ongoing for the Class of 2013, and is chosen not because of their OMT abilities but because of their interest in OMT and to the profession, in general.
The fellowship training is individualized to the students' specific goals for their future medical practice. For example, Danielle Wurtz, OMS III, wants to go back to Kansas to become a rural “everything” physician. Her training is guided towards making her skills fast, accurate and decisive. Jeremy Kenison, OMSIII, is a proud member of the United States Navy. He is a force multiplier and his skills will be utilized to do exactly that, multiply the force as quickly and accurately as possible. Kay Yien, OMS III, knows she wants to incorporate OMT into a clinical and hospital practice. Her skill set will be expanded to do just that.
For the patients of Rocky Vista Health Center, the OMT fellows provide access to high quality osteopathic manipulative therapy under the supervision of board certified physician instructors. This is especially important for patients with Medicaid or certain other insurance that do not cover manual medicine as a covered service. The OMT fellows can provide high quality therapy at a reasonable cost.
